On March 21, Rocky View Motorsports Park (RMP) submitted its Land Use Amendment bylaw to Rocky View County (RVC).

RMP’s submission included impact assessments focused on sound, traffic, bio-physical and regional impacts, to name a few of the many studies.

“This material demonstrates that RMP will respect and even enhance the environmental, social and economic fabric of RVC and surrounding municipalities,” said RMP President and CEO Dominic Young.

According to RMP, the track has been designed to have a net-neutral carbon impact and the development is expected to contribute municipal tax benefits and associated economic spinoffs that exceed any municipal servicing costs that may be required to be provided by the County.

The 640-acre piece of land owned by RMP is north of Township Road 274 and east of Range Road 290.

“We have received an application for a land use amendment for the area where Rockyview Motorsports wants to develop their facility,” said Communications Manager with Rocky View County Grant Kaiser.

“The application will go to council once it has been fully reviewed and clarified (if needed). If it is approved, they will next move to the subdivision or development permit stage.

“We are just beginning to review the application from the planning perspective. At this time we have no timelines for when it might go to council.”

According to the application, RMP will provide on-site water collection, treatment and re-use and will not seek any water or wastewater services from the County.

“In the development of our Master Site Development Plan (MSDP), we spoke to many people as we gathered critical information to go into the plan. With the submission of our application we will continue our engagement process with an information session in Airdrie on April 1,” said Young.

RMP is hosting an information session on April 1 at the Airdrie Best Western. Representatives will be on hand from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to discuss the project.

“We also plan to connect with all of our direct neighbours as soon as possible.

“We believe the plans we have submitted to the County are both exciting and respectful of the County’s process, and we look forward to the opportunity to share these plans with our neighbours in the broadest sense,” he added.

According to Young, RMP is optimistic about plans to bring a European-style driving course and driver training facility. RMP plans to work with RVC to make their late 2015 opening date a reality.

I'm cheering this on, but,

"We are just beginning to review the application from a planning perspective. At this time we have no timelines for when it might go to council."

Says to me a 2015 beginning for construction is optimistic, never mind completion. Governments don't work nearly that fast. Badlands has been in approvals and council red tape for what, 4 years?

Good luck, but be patient.

Rockyview Motorsports Park kicks off crowd funding campaign
Sara Wilson
June 23, 2014

The Rockyview Motorsports Park (RMP) has launched a crowd funding webpage through indiegogo.com with a goal of raising $55,000.

As of press time, the website has raised $52,565 with a closing date of June 27.

“We had a lot of people over the past year asking how they could help (with the project),” said Dominic Young, president of the RMP.

“The money will be used primarily for education and communication programs.”

The 640-acre piece of land owned by RMP is north of Township Road 274 and east of Range Road 290.

The project has come with mixed emotions for the local community in Balzac and in Airdrie, with some residents concerned about a potential increase in traffic volumes, noise and a decrease in property values.

The local community held an open house, which nearly 60 people attended, on April 30 at the Airdrie Agricultural Centre to discuss their concerns.

“We feel there is a lot of misinformation out there,” Young said. “There are fears in the local community that (this facility) will host more spectator events than it actually will. This facility will be a user facility as we have always said.”

Young explained RMP has held meetings with the community over the past week and has been going door-to-door, speaking with residents about their concerns, and the funds raised will help to further education efforts.

On March 21, RMP submitted its Land Use Amendment bylaw to Rocky View County.

RMP’s submission included impact assessments focused on sound, traffic, bio-physical and regional impacts, to name a few of the many studies.

To date the RMP, has completed a historical resource impact assessment, a biophysical impact assessment, a geotechnical evaluation, a traffic impact assessment, a utility servicing brief, a drainage study, a noise impact assessment, and a regional impact assessment.

A Master Site Development Plan and land use designation were submitted to the County recently. If approved, the expected completion date of the Rockyview Motorsports Park is late 2015.

“The choice to donate for people that want to be involved is voluntary,” Young explained even though the project hasn’t been approved.

A donation to the campaign can be either a monetary donation in varying amounts, or a choice to purchase packages with items that range from vouchers to enjoy a half-day lapping session, collector T-shirt and recognition on the supporters board at the park.

According to RMP, the track has been designed to have a net-neutral carbon impact and the development is expected to contribute municipal tax benefits and associated economic spinoffs that exceed any municipal servicing costs that may be required to be provided by the County.
