The “EMRA 200”

The first team to reach 200 laps wins.
Entry fee is $200 per team
2 riders minimum on each team.
Open to all Intermediate and Expert racers.
Each team uses one motorcycle meeting EMRA Superbike rules.
Trophy Prizes

Teams will be divided up into 6 groups determined by the fastest racer on each team.

Group A = the team whose fastest riders best lap time was 1:07” or greater.
Group B = the team whose fastest riders best lap time was between 1:05” and 1:07”
Group C = the team whose fastest riders best lap time was between 1:03” and 1:05”
Group D = the team whose fastest riders best lap time was between 1:01” and 1:03”
Group E = the team whose fastest riders best lap time was between 1:00” and 1:01"
Group F = the team whose fastest riders best lap time was less than 1:00"

Racer lap times will be taken from EMRA rounds 1 to 6 as recorded by the EMRA timing system.

Example: Team Pylon has three racers: 1, 2 and 3.
Racer 1’s best lap time all year was a 1:09
Racer 2’s best lap time all year was a 1:05.5
Racer 3’s best lap time all year was a 1:02.2
This team would be put into group D because their fastest rider (Racer 3) did a lap time between 1:01 and 1:03.

Any team with a rider that has not raced with the EMRA this year will be placed in the fastest group (F)

The race will have a staggered start:
Group A will begin first from the Start/ Finish line at 12:00:00 (noon)
Group B will start from the hot pit exit when it is safe to do so anytime after 12:06:40
Group C will start from the hot pit exit when it is safe to do so anytime after 12:13:20
Group D will start from the hot pit exit when it is safe to do so anytime after 12:20:00
Group E will start from the hot pit exit when it is safe to do so anytime after 12:23:20
Group F will start from the hot pit exit when it is safe to do so anytime after
12:28:40

I determined the time penalties for each group by using the shortest time for that group and calculating how long it would take them to do 200 laps with no pit stops. For example: Group C would do 200 laps in 3 hours, 30 minutes and 0 seconds if they did 1:03 lap times for every lap and took no pit stops. For Group F, I based the calculation on 0:59 lap times. With these penalties every team should finish 3 hours, 43 minutes and 20 seconds after the start. Of course there WILL BE pit stops so the race will take longer than my calculation.

This should prove to be an exciting race because the faster teams will be playing catch-up for the entire race and the winner probably won’t be determined until the very end. The race will be held at noon on Sunday, September 11.

How about doing the combined average fastest lap for each team? If a two rider team has one rider with a fastest lap of 1:00.0 and the other with a fastest lap of 1:04.0 then they'd be placed in group D. This would make the racing closer providing both riders do an equal amount of laps. The disadvange of having unequally paced riders on a team is more obvious when the differences are greater and a combined average would make the race more fair.
