PA System

One of the local motocross clubs uses an FM transmitter at some of their races to enhance the PA system. Does anyone think that being able to hear the track announcers over any FM radio would be an option worth exploring ?
We would have to get a radio license but that's pretty straight forward, and it would cost about $350 to rent the equipment for the weekend.
I have the contact information if we want to explore this option.

I like this idea. however, I am wondering if the membership would be willing to spend $5.00 extra per round for it. As the exec we have done everything we can to keep our fees down.

Let us know what you guys think.

I personally think the idea is priceless. I would rather spend $5.00 extra a round, actually be able to hear the 5 minute race warning, and not miss a $80.00 race... or be so late I have to start from the hot pits, or be in such a rush i forget to put gas in the bike!!

I would rather see money being put into improving the current PA system so that we can hear it clearly in the pits/stands.

our club, the WMRC, uses a FM transmitter for our announcing tower. If the EMRA does a little research, you will find that you can purchase a LPFM (Low Power FM) transmitter for as little as $800. Instead of a $350 rental, your club can own one for just a little more. You would not need "stereo" transmissions, can choose a range in the commercial band (87-108) and it would only work within .5 to 1km of the track.

It really is hard to hear your announcers in the pits and this would be a great investment I think.

:) Thanks for that update Dean, I remember hearing that you could get the PA on the radio in the pits my first year at WMRC. But I have never heard of it since,

We should consider announcing that it is available at riders meetings,

Enjoy the ride, and best regards,
Blair

This could add a nice benefit for our sponsors by running ads during races or practice.

That really is a great idea, helps fill the dead air time, adds value to sponsors both for the club, and for riders,

I suspect that a lot of riders never bother to provide a short point form bio of themselves and their sponsors to the tower to help promote sponsors.

I might even be prepared to go for a one time special assessment to members that allows the club to get a system.

Keep the good ideas coming,

Blair

If the club is looking at a one time cost of $1000 or less and it would benifit our club and the sponsors that support it, I woube very interested in this. If anyone has more info I can bring this up at the next exec meeting for discussion.

:) Dean posted up that the systems are available in the $800 ranger,

Perhaps PM him and see where they are available from, or....

Dean if you see this, can you PM Justin and let him know where to look to find these systems in the affordable price range you mention, Thanks,

Enjoy the ride, and best regards,
Blair

I like Deans idea better.

Hey Spence, sounds like you need to get yourself organized. ha ha! BTW, I've almost missed a few starts also.
