Race City Speedway, Calgary, Alberta
Superbike Nationals - Round 2 & 3
June 24, 2010
Acceleration Racing / Suzuki / Motovan teen sensation, Cody Matechuk, wasted no time getting up to race pace in practice sessions earlier today. Topping the highlights, Matechuk lead most of the Pro Superbike Session this afternoon when he put in a time of 1:17.2 in the early laps of the 40 minute event.
Current reigning Superbike Champion Jordan Szoke challenged Matechuk in the last ten minutes putting down a time of 1:16:9 followed by a similar charge from veteran racer, Kevin Lacombe with a 1:17.0. Pushing to the end Matechuk's last lap was also clocked at a 1:17:0 but fell just short of taking back 2nd position. The result gave Matechuk his fastest time ever posted at Race City and the third fastest time in the Main Event.
Pro 600 Sportbike offered similar results for the Cochrane teeneager. Trailing the Series points leader Jordan Szoke and Honda Canada's Jodi Christie, Matechuk was one of only 3 riders to drop below the 1:20.0 mark. "I had a lot of fun today, it was just a blast!" I know how fast we're running, especially on the GSX-R1000 but it all feels so controlled. I pushed myself to make improvements on how I'm riding today, breaking later and acceleration a little sooner, that sort of thing. It seems to be working."
More race action from Calgary, Alberta tomorrow with Pro 600 and Superbike Qualifier updates. We'll keep you posted!
